and how OAK Horizons can help

OPPORTUNITIES ABOUND WITH KNOWLEDGE

Medical careers are the fastest growing careers in the world.

Our aging population heightens the need for visits and treatment in the medical community resulting in patient care, documentation, and billing.

Medical Transcription is projected to grow faster than the average through 2016 per the Bureau of Labor and Statistics site.  For more information http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos271.htm

Medical transcriptionist (MT) listens to dictated recordings made by physicians and other healthcare professionals and transcribes them into medical reports, correspondence, and other administrative documents. [hear sample] They generally listen to recordings on a headset, using a foot pedal to pause the recording when necessary, and key the text into a personal computer or word processor. The documents they produce include discharge summaries, medical history and physical examination reports, operative reports, consultation reports, autopsy reports, diagnostic imaging studies, progress notes, and referral letters.   Transcribed documents are often delivered to the dictator via the Internet.

Medical transcriptionists must understand medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments. They also must be able to translate medical jargon and abbreviations into their expanded forms. To help identify terms appropriately, transcriptionists refer to standard medical reference materials both printed and electronic; some of these are available over the Internet.

Medical transcription is a rewarding career and important to the healthcare team supporting quality care.  MT more often work from home but may also transcribe within a healthcare setting or medical transcription services provider such as Southern Transcription, DTS America, Oak Transcription, Rockford Transcription, eMedDox, The Inner Office, etc.

AHDI (Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity) and MTIA (Medical Transcription Industry Alliance) are the two recognized national organizations that represent the medical transcriptionists and medical transcription services owners. OAK Horizons is an approved vendor with each of these organizations and specializes in training up todays leading MTs.
